Wildlife officials keep a close watch on the fisheries in lakes throughout the region and this summer plan to perform creel surveys to collect data. Wyoming Game & Fish Department recently announced that fisheries managers from their Department and Utah Division of Wildlife Resources will work together to conduct the creel survey of Flaming Gorge Reservoir throughout this summer. “The reservoir wide creel takes place once every ten years,” shares the announcement. “The surveys began in January along the highways and creel survey locations will shift from the highway to boat ramps starting in May.” National Park Survey provides the following as the definition of a creel survey: the record of a single day’s fishing effort, providing details on what an angler caught, released, and how much time was spent fishing.
