A flag referendum petition signing event is being held this coming Friday and Saturday at the Vernal Cinemas. “This is the last big push to gather signatures to put the flag on the ballot this November giving the ability for every citizen to decide whether to keep the State Flag which we have had for over 110 years or adopt the new one recently passed as Senate Bill31,” shares local Jeff Shoell. “We hope people will come out to support us and sign the petition to have a say in what represents us as a State.” The veto referendum was filed in early March under the name ‘2023 Utah Flag Referendum’. It needs just under 134,300 valid signatures in order to be included on the 2024 ballot. Shoell referenced a poll that claims 72% of Utahans are opposed to changing the flag. In this area, they have a target goal of 1,500 signatures to add to the statewide effort to make this happen. Like most election efforts, every valid signature counts.
