An attack on a Duchesne County couple at their home on Friday night

resulted in five people being charged with Attempted Aggravated Murder.

35-year-old Thomas Neil Tuinman, 33-year-old Stephanie Tuinman, 30-year-old

Michael Wallace Tuinman, 30-year-old Samantha Tuinman, and 29-year-old

Byron Rashad Thompson were charged with 1st Degree Attempted Aggravated

Murder on Monday as well as 1st degree felony Aggravated Assault and

Aggravated Burglary. According to the Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office, a

deputy was dispatched to 2725 West 2500 South at about 9:00pm on Friday  in

the Vonsville area near Roosevelt. A woman, surrounded by several other

people, was screaming in pain. The deputy spoke to the woman who said that

someone had broken down her front door and beat she and her husband. He

could see that she was bleeding from her head, nose, and mouth. The deputy

found her husband who was also bleeding from his head, nose, and mouth and

had a gash on his knee as well as cuts and bruises on his back from his

neck to his buttocks. “The man and woman were taken by ambulance to the

hospital where medical staff determined the woman had bleeding on her

brain,” shares the Sheriff’s Office. “The woman told investigators one of

the female suspects hit her in the head with a bat.” The woman was able to

identify by name Thomas Tuinman, Samantha Tuinman, and Mike Tuinman as the

attackers. She said there was also another woman and man that she

recognized but did not know by name. She was flown to a hospital on the

Wasatch Front for her extensive injuries and remained hospitalized on

Monday. The man was treated at the hospital and had been released but was

readmitted on Monday for further treatment. Upon interviewing the suspects,

investigators learned that Thomas, Samantha, and Stephanie Tuinman as well

as Byron Thompson had driven to the victims’ house together where they met

up with Michael Tuinman. “Detectives were told that a few members of the

group went to the front door, which was open with only the glass storm door

closed,” shares the release. “They broke the glass out and entered the

house, chasing both victims out of the house and then assaulted them both

outside the home.” All five individuals were booked into Duchesne County

Jail. Samantha, Stephanie, and Michael Tuinman posted bail and were

released.
