Ashley National Forest is helping out those who will need firewood this winter. Vernal District Ranger Ryan Mower says they have fire crews cutting trees that are available for firewood and there are maps for those with firewood permits to find where the cut trees are located. There is also a green firewood permit option in the works that will allow the permit holder to cut down living trees for firewood. Mower says cutting green trees in certain areas can help to protect other resources and is a benefit to the public while further reducing fuels in the forest. As areas become authorized for this it would be required to visit the district office to buy the permit.
