A traffic stop on 3000 South in Uintah County ended in the arrest of an alleged fentanyl dealer on Sunday. According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, 37-year-old Kreg Dale Shewell was the driver of the vehicle and he was found to have an active warrant. A state certified narcotic K9 gave a positive indication to the odor of narcotics and Shewell and his passenger were removed from the vehicle so a search could be conducted. As Shewell exited the vehicle, drug paraphernalia fell from his person. After being placed in handcuffs and read his Miranda Rights, Shewell admitted that the item was used to ingest fentanyl, which he said he had on his person. One container had 21 fentanyl pills and another container in the vehicle had 57 fentanyl pills. He also admitted to supplying his passengers with fentanyl pills as well as with drug paraphernalia and methamphetamine. Shewell was found to have a prior narcotic charge in North Dakota from 2022. He is charged with 3 counts of 2nd Degree Felony Distribution of a Controlled Substance as well as other misdemeanor charges. The officer requested that Shewell be held without bail due to his admission to distributing fentanyl which has been shown to cause overdose and death to many in Uintah County. Shewall’s initial appearance is scheduled in 8th District Court on May 20th.
