A federal jury found Daggett County liable this week for the violation of constitutional rights of former inmates abused at the Daggett County Jail. The jail was shut down in 2017 following the allegations. While most of the court proceedings tied to the lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union against Daggett County and staff were settled, Daggett County rejected a $3.2 million dollar settlement with the inmates and chose the route of a federal jury trial instead. KSL reported on Tuesday that after 3 days of jury deliberation, Daggett County was found liable and three of the former inmates were awarded a total of $352,300 dollars in damages. Steven Drollette was awarded $65,000 dollars, Joshua Olsen was awarded $58,500 dollars, and Joshua Asay was awarded $228,800 dollars. A fourth inmate was not awarded any damages. The Utah Counties Indemnity Pool insurance fund is expected to pay the damages.
