The victim of a fatal crash near Vernal on Tuesday has been identified. Utah Highway Patrol shared that the fatal crash occurred on November 16th at approximately 11:16 am on Highway 40 at milepost 139. 67-year-old Mary M. Smuin of Vernal was traveling west on Highway 40 in a Jeep when a pickup, traveling east at the same location, drifted left of center and struck the Jeep head-on. Tragically, Mary Smuin was killed on impact while the driver of the Dodge pickup was transported by ground to a local hospital in critical condition.
