Fatal Crash on Highway 40; Alcohol Investigated as Contributing Factor

Many travelers coming to and from the Uintah Basin on Saturday were delayed due ot a tragic crash. According to Utah Highway Patrol, on Saturday, January 30th, at approximately 6:19 p.m., Troopers responded to reports of a head-on collision on Highway 40 at mile post 34. “A small passenger sedan had crossed from the westbound traffic lane into the eastbound traffic lane where it collided with a pickup truck. The driver of the sedan was pinned and pronounced deceased by medical personnel. The driver of the pickup truck sustained incapacitating injuries and is expected to recover. At this time, alcohol is being investigated as a contributing factor with the deceased driver of the sedan. Witnesses also reported seeing the sedan swerving prior to going into oncoming traffic and colliding with the truck.” Highway 40 was closed until 9:10 p.m.
