From a half marathon to a community art festival, Uintah County was humming with activity over the weekend. Two neighboring events fed off each other in downtown Vernal on Saturday with the Vernal Fire Department’s free community breakfast and the Vern and Al season kickoff party across the street at the Utah Field House. According to Field House Manager Steve Sroka(Sir-Oak-a), people were lined up outside the fieldhouse by9am because of the fireman’s breakfast across the street. 1,295 people showed up to the field house for the kickoff of the Vern and Al promotion in which two new characters were added to the travel campaign. Fifty percent of those attending were children. The Dino Half Marathon, Ouray Wildlife Refuge open house, mini horse and pony show, Terra Academy art festival and the baja race at Buckskin Hills also got people out and about over the weekend.
