Vernal Theatre: Live’s Season 5 closer is fan favorite ‘The Sound of Music’ and excitement for the production is seemingly in the air. There is now less than a month before opening and show director Mike Sorenson says rehearsals have been going great. “Our cast is a really good mix of old faces and new faces,” explains Sorenson. “They are phenomenally talented. They have been working hard and they are sure to give a great show. It is so fun to watch them grow into their characters and see the show grow into a show,” continues Sorenson who has a little bit of history with the show. The Sound of Music was his mom’s favorite musical her whole life and so of course Mike had plenty of exposure. In 9th grade he was in a production of the show at Eisenhower Junior High and played the coveted role of Captain von Trapp. “It was a monumental start to my love of theatre and music,” explains Sorenson. “Since then, I have been to the Austrian Alps and the Trapp family lodge in Vermont and have maintained a love for this play. I love it. I’m so honored to be able to direct it and I love every minute of it. I’m so excited to see it all come together.” The show runs select dates from April 16th through the 24th. That’s still a few weeks away but don’t wait to get your tickets or you might not get the chance as seats are already half gone. Visit www.vernaltheatre.com for tickets and information.
