Evacuations Ordered Due To Yellow Lake Fire

The Yellow Lake Fire on the Heber-Kamas Ranger District was estimated on Sunday night at 1,500 acres burning in timber as well as standing dead and down timber. Resources on scene on Sunday were 4 air tankers, 5 engines, 2 helicopters and 2 crews with additional resources ordered. An area closure was announced, stating that all campers within the closed area, including the Soapstone Basin area, are asked to leave. The closed area boundaries are Mill Hollow on the west side, Soapstone Basin area North of Highway 35, Wolf Creek campground on the east and Duchesne Ridge on the south. The fire crossed onto the east side of Highway 35 on Sunday prompting the Highway to be closed. Travelers are encouraged to check the latest travel announcements to check if Highway 35 is open or closed when traveling. The fire is located east and south of Mill Hollow Reservoir.
