The experts at the USU Bingham Research Center shared some great news on Tuesday.
They announced what they feel confident calling the end of the winter ozone season and
one in which there were no ozone exceedances. “Not enough snow fell over the weekend
to create much snowpack, and it melted out quickly,” shares the announcement. “At this
point in the season, it is extremely unlikely that any storm will bring enough snow cover
across the Basin to lead to strong inversions and winter time ozone…Let’s celebrate the
fact that we made it through the winter without any exceedances of the EPA air quality
standard, and we’ve done it while achieving above-normal snowpack in the Uinta
Mountains!” The researchers will email again in December at the start of the next winter
ozone season.
