Even with snow still in place, work has begun on the East Fork Emergency Watershed Protection project in Duchesne County that aims to address issues caused by the 2020 East Fork Fire burn scar. The Natural Resources Conservation Service has awarded funding for the project as part of the federal Emergency Watershed Protection (EWP) program. Among the issues needing addressed is damage from the major flooding caused by the burn scar. The flooding impacted the canals that carry irrigation water and projects need to be done in both the Moon Lake drainages and the Rock Creek drainages. Emergency Management Director Mike Lefler reported to the Duchesne County Commissioners last week that the EWP project weekly meetings have started up and even though there is still snow in the Moon Lake area, project work has begun there.
