Installation of electric vehicle charging stations is underway in downtown Vernal. City
Council finalized an agreement with Rocky Mountain Power for the installation of the
electric vehicle charging stations by the summer of 2023 with the project utilizing about
$1 million dollars in grant funds through Electrify America. The space will be leased to
Rocky Mountain Power to own and operate the charging stations in the parking area of
the block on 100 West. The charging stations will initially be free to use but Rocky
Mountain Power will have the right to charge in the future. Vernal City Manager Quinn
Bennion shared with Evans Family Media at the time of City Council’s approval of the
project that the charging stations will be helpful in drawing more travelers to Vernal.
Bennion explained that if you look at an EV station map you can see that electric vehicle
owners avoid going through Vernal because there are not very many charging stations so
they choose other routes.
