Polling sites around the state closed last night at 8pm and the tentative results are in. According to the latest available unofficial results posted on utah.gov, incumbent John Curtis took 50.71 percent of the vote for US Senate, incumbent Governor Spencer Cox took 56.68 percent of the vote, Derek Brown took highest percentage of vote as Attorney General with 45.30 percent, and Tina Cannon took 57 percent of the vote for State Auditor. Incumbent Christine Watkins barely took a majority vote with 50.78 percent for the State House 67 seat which includes Duchesne County. Perhaps most disappointing for Uintah Basin voters is that Roosevelt City Mayor JR Bird is out of the race for US House District 3. Mike Kennedy received the greatest amount of votes at 37.13 percent while Bird received 17.53 percent of the votes statewide. Bird, however, was the winner in Duchesne, Uintah, and Daggett Counties. After the race was called last night, Bird shared his reaction with Evans Family Media. “I really want to thank those that came out and voted for me and supported us in this race,” shared Bird. “We showed up really well in the Uintah Basin and I’m so grateful for that support. It looks like rural Utah was really backing us throughout this whole race. Unfortunately, Utah County and Salt Lake are big counties and they outweigh us by quite a bit. We did everything we could and unfortunately it didn’t fall our way but we are super grateful for the relationships we made and the support we felt. Rural Utah came out for us and we appreciate that. Thank you all for getting involved and doing what you do.” Tentative election results can be viewed at electionresults.utah.gov.
