DWR: What to Expect on Waterfowl Hunts

by | Sep 18, 2019 | News | 0 comments

For a lot of hunters the waterfowl hunting season is like an early Christmas. Well, ho ho ho, because the waterfowl hunting season is knocking on the door. All waterfowl, except for swans, are open to anyone with a Utah hunting license. It should be noted that hunters will need a Harvest Information Program (HIP) number and if you are under the age of 15 a federal duck stamp. A HIP number is free so register for one on the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources website. For those hunters going out for the fowls, here is what to expect: Swan population numbers are currently well above their objective. For geese, there aren’t any population estimates but recent surveys in Utah show that Canada geese numbers decreased a little. Finally, duck numbers across North America are at 38.9 million, a slight decrease from the 41.2 million last year.
