The hunting seasons has come upon us and has definitely kept the conservation officers of the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources busy. Between August 1st and October 13th officers have contacted 35,619 individuals and inspected 11,425 hunting licenses. Through those efforts they have detected 1,215 violations and discovered 102 illegally killed big game animals that have lead to 918 citations being issued. “Hunters need to take the responsibility of knowing the law, having a current hunting or combination license and knowing what species and areas their permits allow them to hunt,” shares DWR Capt. J Shirley. “We need your help. Please keep your eyes and ears open and report suspicious activity to us. Working together, we can enforce wildlife laws and keep our recreating public safe.” If you happen to witness a violation here are some tips on what to do. A critical piece of information is a plate number to a vehicle and if that is not possible gather as much information as you can. Do not confront the individual, rather call the UTip Hotline at 1-800-662-3337 once you can. This hotline is only for reporting wildlife violations. Officers have been grateful for all the calls received so far this hunting season.
