The Division of Wildlife Resources has a simple tip for those hoping to find success hunting doves starting in September. Find water and use decoys. DWR Migratory Bird Coordinator Blair Stringham says “bone dry conditions in the state make finding a watering hole more important than ever.” He also emphasizes that hunters should wear camouflage and place dove decoys where they can be easily seen. “Hunting doves over decoys is a tactic that’s catching on in Utah,” shares Strinham. “Using decoys can be a great way to put the birds right where you want them.” Another tip Strinham offers is to look for concentrations of trees near grain fields and watering holes because doves fly into these areas before roosting for the night.
