A Duchesne County man is facing felony charges after driving drunk and causing a crash resulting in serious injury to the other vehicle’s occupants. According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, 19-year-old Darius Robert Tapoof was extremely intoxicated while driving without headlights on at night on August 1st when he swerved across the center medium lane and struck another vehicle head on. Tapoof managed to drive away down the road before striking a tree at which time he got out of the vehicle and tried to flee on foot but was located a few minutes later. The accident occurred on 1000 West 200 North in Roosevelt City. The driver of the other vehicle was stuck in the vehicle and suffered multiple broken bones, including her left femur bone. She was flown to a Salt Lake area hospital due to the seriousness of her injuries. The passengers in that vehicle also received injuries. Tapoof is charged with 2 counts of 3rd Degree Felony Negligently Operating a Vehicle Resulting In Serious Bodily Injury, another 2 Misdemeanors of that same charge, as well as DUI, Reckless Driving, Drinking Alcohol In the Vehicle, and Failure to Remain at an Accident Involving Serious Injury.
