Duchesne Volunteer Fire Department Wildland Fire Safety

The Duchesne Volunteer Fire Department continues to utilize social  media to educate the public on fire safety. While wet weather can be helpful, it also can come with increased risk of wildfire due to lightning strikes. Regardless of the weather there are steps that can be taken to protect your home. “The roof and exterior structure of your dwelling should be constructed of non-combustible or fire-resistant materials such as fire-resistant roofing materials, tile, slate, sheet iron, aluminum, brick, or stone. Wood siding, cedar shakes, exterior wood paneling, and other highly combustible materials should be treated with fire retardant chemicals. Clean roof surfaces and gutters regularly to avoid accumulation of flammable materials such as pine needles, leaves, branches, etc. Remove portions of any tree extending within 10 feet of the flue opening of any stove or chimney and keep branches off the roof.” For more tips, follow the Duchesne Volunteer Fire Department Facebook page.
