Duchesne Volunteer Fire Department Reminds Public To Post House Numbers

The Duchesne Volunteer Fire Department would like to remind the community to make sure your house number can be seen from the road so that emergency responders can quickly find you. While the National Fire Protection Association has set a six-minute guideline for fire department response time to a fire emergency, that can be a difficult or impossible standard to maintain in rural areas. Forty years ago the average estimate was that individuals had an average of 15 to 17 minutes to escape a house fire. Now, because of synthetic materials and open floor plans, that average has dropped to just a few minutes before a house is engulfed. On top of that, 4 in 10 fatal house fires occur between 10pm and 7am. While a house fire may be visible from a distance, many emergency calls are not. Please be sure that your house number is visible from the street and lit at night to help emergency responders as best we can.
