Duchesne schools were placed on lockdown Thursday during school hours after report of a shooting threat that resulted in one student brought into police custody and two others detained for questioning. According to the Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office, the threat was reported to Principal Stan Young at about 1:40pm by a small group of students that he said were “obviously stressed” when they came to his office. Principal Young immediately placed Duchesne High School on lockdown and reported the threat to law enforcement. Duchesne Elementary School was placed on lockdown as a precaution. According to Duchesne County Sheriff David Boren, two deputies were at the school in less than two minutes once dispatchers broadcast an “active shooter” call at 1:41pm. “The deputies entered the school and were met by the principal, who led them to a classroom on the east end of the school,” shares the Sheriff’s Office. “The deputies entered the classroom and took one male juvenile into custody at gunpoint at 1:50pm…One deputy remained with the teen in custody while the other joined additional responding officers in a search of the school.” No firearms or explosives were located during the search and the lockdown at both schools was lifted at 2:35pm at the bell indicating the end of school and students were allowed to go home as scheduled. According to Student Services Director Scott Forsyth, the three individuals detained are all Duchesne High School students and counselors will be on hand Friday at the high school and elementary school for students or teachers who need assistance. Sheriff Boren says the investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at
