The Duchesne County Emergency Management Office encourages residents to be aware of the possibility of spring flooding. “Sudden warming or a rain-on-snow event could trigger floods in certain areas,” shares the announcement. “If you are residing in an area where your property could be affected by high water levels, we encourage you to make plans and take action now to reduce the potential for damage or hazards that may arise from the anticipated spring run-off. If spring flooding does occur, county crews must first focus on protecting public infrastructure and broader community needs and may not have the ability to meet individual property owners’ needs.” It’s recommended to keep snow accumulation away from ditches and natural low drainage areas near homes. Proactive measures to take now include stocking up on sandbags, creating dikes around structures or clearing debris from nearby watercourses.
