Like other agencies in the Basin, the Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a school crosswalk enforcement blitz during the first few weeks of the new school year. The blitz is in conjunction with the Utah Highway Safety Office and is meant to help ensure the safety of pedestrians and motorists in Duchesne County. Officers will be watching multiple locations, including the intersections of Highway 40 and 100 West in Duchesne, the intersection of
300 North and Center Street in Duchesne
, and the school crosswalks on Main Street in Altamont. “Our deputies will enforce traffic laws related to speeding, distracted driving, and parking regulations in our school crosswalk areas to keep pedestrians safe,” shares the Sheriff’s Office. “They will also issue citations or warnings to pedestrians who engage in illegal risk-taking behaviors such as jaywalking. Our goals is to educate drivers and pedestrians about the importance of watching out for each other and to educate the public about pedestrian safety laws.” Citations will be issued when appropriate.
