The fight against big tobacco targeting teens is an ongoing battle and one that Duchesne County School District has teamed up with TriCounty Health to take on. “Duchesne County School District is a pivotal partner to TriCounty Health Department, providing scholarships to students who are actively working to prevent nicotine and tobacco use among peers,” shares TriCounty Health. “Students in this tobacco prevention program will be awarded approximately $1,000 in May, after graduation.” The participating students lead school based anti-tobacco groups focused on encouraging teens to stay tobacco free. “I encourage all parents to talk with their kids about vaping and tobacco,” shares TriCounty Health Director Kirk Benge. “I think most parents would be surprised at how many young teens are addicted to nicotine and tobacco in our communities. I hope that this program can be a way to help empower students to avoid addictive and harmful substances and give a voice to those who make healthy choices.” TriCounty Health is also available with programs to help community members of all ages to quit and live tobacco free.
