Duchesne County made sure to offer support to a fuels reduction project planned on Ashley National Forest. A letter of support was presented by Community Development Director Mike Hyde to Ashley National Forest Supervisor Susan Eickoff. The letter reads in part that Duchesne County concurs with the purpose and need for the project, which will “reduce the likelihood of undesirable fires, improve forest health, improve wildlife habitat, protect improvements and increase public safety.” The fuels reduction project will focus on 26,160 acres of land on the Forest’s South Slope of which is about 21,000 acres of national forest and about 5,100 acres of tribal land. The area extends from the Yellowstone Canyon area to the Uinta Canyon area of Duchesne County. The Duchesne County Commission approved of sharing the letter to Forest Supervisor Eickoff.
