An aging Duchesne County owned building on South Center Street in Duchesne City is prepping for a construction project. Duchesne County Commissioner Irene Hansen shares that the building that houses the library in Duchesne is a “nostalgic building with great bones” that has been mostly empty for nearly a decade. A remodel of the entire building will repurpose the space as the Senior Center, the Duchesne Branch Library, and Extension Offices. The Senior Center that has been housed in the County Administration building for over 20 years will be moving to the new space once construction is complete. “They have a wonderful program and some very dedicated staff and seniors who go there for lunches regularly,” shares Hansen. “The very small footprint they currently have will be used for additional offices for the county administration building. It’s a win-win for everyone. The new Senior Center and Library will be in a very central location and within walking distance of most Duchesne City residents.” The Duchesne Branch Library will be temporarily closed during construction.
