Utah is following the footsteps of other states by pushing forward in an effort to see a Utah specific ‘Roadless Rule’ and local entities are joining the movement. Duchesne County has announced meetings as they consider amendments to the Duchesne County General Plan. In the words of the public meeting announcement, this is to “establish desired management classifications for Inventoried Roadless Areas (IRAs) on the Ashley National Forest. Such amendments are intended to support an effort by the State of Utah to petition the Secretary of Agriculture to undergo rulemaking to establish new management provisions for all of Utah’s Inventoried Roadless Areas.” All public and affected entities are invited to review and comment on the draft general plan amendments which are available on the Duchesne County website. A meeting of the County Planning Committee where this will be considered is being held September 27th at 6:00pm. The dates of public hearings where the draft plan amendments will be considered are October 10th at 5:00pm, October 22nd at 1:30pm, and October 29th, at 1:30pm. All meetings will be held at the Duchesne County Administration Building.
