The Duchesne County Commission approved a letter to be sent to the U.S. Global Change Research Program during Commission meeting this month. The letter, written by Community Development Director Mike Hyde, reads in part, “Given the large amount of federally-managed land within our boundaries, the County is keenly interested in federal projects that may impact how these lands are managed and made available for multiple uses by our citizens in the future. Much of our local economy is based on the use of natural resources existing in nature, including oil and gas production, grazing to support the agricultural industry and many forms of recreation in nature on these federal lands. It is critical that this National Nature Assessment not be used as a weapon to restrict the multiple uses of public lands by our citizens and visitors in the future.” The Commission unanimously approved the letter.
