Duchesne County Commission Discuss Vaccine Mandate

There is still no answer on whether or not the Biden administration’s workplace vaccine mandate will go into effect, leaving local municipalities and businesses in limbo in the meantime. The mandate was a topic at a recent Duchesne County Commission meeting during which Human Resource Director Melissa Yergensen shared that the Appellate Courts overturned the Stay on the vaccine mandate and OSHA has given a January 10th enforcement date. It was emphasized during the meeting that this means that if the mandate passes, the county will be required to test weekly all unvaccinated employees and they will have to wear a mask at all times. Employees will not be required to get vaccinated to stay employed, but they must test weekly and have a negative test. If the county doesn’t comply they could be fined by OSHA. Director Yergensen suggested that the Commission start planning the steps that will need to be taken if it goes into effect. The U.S. Supreme Court is considering arguments this Friday and is expected to make a decision soon after.
