A Salt Lake City man has been charged after an incident in which he fled after being pulled over by police and disposed of large amounts of drugs out the car window. According to the Probable Cause Statement, an officer pulled over a vehicle for speeding in Uintah County and it was found that the driver, Robert Cook, had a denied driver’s license. “During the traffic stop, [Cook] returned to his vehicle while officers were speaking with each other and fled the scene in his vehicle. An officer pursued [Cook] in a marked patrol vehicle with emergency lights and sirens activated. [Cook] did not stop and led police on a chase. During the chase, [Cook] threw multiple items, including clothing, out of the driver’s side window of the vehicle. [The] officer eventually had to terminate the pursuit and [Cook’s] vehicle was later located abandoned. It was later discovered that located in the items [Cook] threw out of the vehicle while fleeing was a large quantity of Methamphetamine, a large quantity of Heroin, and a large quantity of Fentanyl pills.” Cook was later apprehended and admitted to officers that he threw the items out the window, explaining that he “transports narcotics three to four times a week to the Uintah Basin and that was what he was doing when he was pulled over.” Cook is charged with 3 counts of 1st Degree Felony Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance, 2nd Degree Felony Obstruction of Justice, 3rd Degree Felony Failure to Stop or Respond at Command of Police, and Misdemeanor Driving on a Denied License.
