Concern was expressed during the public comment period of Tuesday’s Rock Springs City Council meeting about an upcoming Drag Story Hour scheduled at the Broadway Theater. The event will feature Tara Lipsyncki who performed at the Drag Story Hour held in Vernal in June. A Rock Springs resident told the Council she is very concerned about the story time being held and shared her belief that it is not good for impressionable kids. Council member Tim Robinson responded to her expressed concerns asking why her opinion as a Christian should override his opinion as a non-Christian as to what his child gets to do. Rock Springs Mayor Max Mickelson interjected and emphasized that the First Amendment protects her right to oppose the event as well as the organizers right to hold the event. He said that they have every right under the law to offer the event just like people have every right to not like it, to not go, or to go. The Mayor also stated that the event is not sponsored or funded by the City.
