A movement is growing to fund the Visa renewals of the two Dual Language Immersion program teachers at Discovery Elementary. Initially, supporters were urging the Uintah School District to step up and provide a way to fund the Visa renewals but the school board met last week and the funding was not approved. Superintendent Dr. Rick Woodford issued a Statement of Intent on March 19th on this topic. “Uintah School District provides a comprehensive Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program for students in Uintah County. This includes a full immersion program at Discovery Elementary and extended opportunities for DLI instruction for students in middle school and high school,” shares Woodford. “Community Supporters of Dual Language Immersion (DLI) Teachers is an informal group of concerned citizens from Uintah County who intend to raise funds to help support the district’s DLI program. This group has expressed an explicit interest in raising funds to support the retention of the district’s DLI teachers. Uintah School District agrees to use all privately donated funds that are explicitly earmarked for the district’s DLI program and raised between now and June 30th, 2025, for this cause. Donations cannot be refunded. Any remaining funds or funds that cannot be used for DLI teacher retention will be earmarked for DLI and used at the discretion of the building principals to provide supplies and materials for DLI classrooms. Donations can be made through Chauntue Peterson, secretary at Discovery Elementary.” Receipts of donation are available upon request.
