A dog’s unexplained death on Thursday is under investigation. According to the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office, a fisherman and his dog were at Flaming Gorge fishing along the west bank in the Haystack Buttes area about 28 miles south of Green River when the dog became sick for no apparent reason. The dog was taken to a veterinarian who said it was beyond aid and recommended that it be put down, also noting that the dog could have been poisoned. The Sheriff’s Office recommends that people who take their dogs on outings remain alert and consider restraining them as there are sometimes poisons used by trappers engaged in predator control. While it is unknown what this dog encountered, it is known that if domestic dogs encounter the traps the results can be tragic.
