Construction on the Discovery Trail, which will run from behind Discovery Elementary to 1500 South in Uintah County, is getting underway. Vernal City bid the trail project, opening bids on Tuesday, and received a favorable response. The project was split into 3 phases to acknowledge the variety of project elements to match contractor skills: Phase 1 is paving of the trail. Phase 2 is concrete work along 1500 South and into Quailbrook subdivision. Phase 3 is fencing, which will be bid at a later date. Two bids were received for Phase 1 with the award going to Allred Paving for almost a half mile of asphalt trail. Phase 2 received 3 bids with the award going to Stearns Construction for sidewalks along 1500 South and into the Quailbrook neighborhood. A pedestrian actuated LED crossing sign will be installed on both sides of 1500 South at the trail entrance. Vernal City received two grants to complete this project and as it sits right now, the grant funding is sufficient to fund both phases. The contractors have until October 15th to complete the project.
