Mother’s Day weekend is promising to be memorable in the Vernal area. The sky will be colorfully decorated with the launch of the first annual Dinah “SOAR” Hot Air Balloon Festival. As this is a first time for this event there are a few things the community needs to know. First, it’s important to know that hot air balloons rise up and float down multiple times during a flight. If a balloon lands near your home, please do not be alarmed. Occasionally the balloons will “hop” which is a term for doing a quick landing in order to transfer passengers. Weather permitting, the hot air balloons will be flying Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, May 11th through the 13th. Something especially exciting will be the nightglow on Friday and Saturday night. A nightglow is where the hot air balloon pilots inflate their balloons to light them up against the dark night sky. The balloons don’t fly during a nightglow, but stay on the ground so everyone can walk around them, take pictures, and visit with the pilots. Don’t miss this magical event! Volunteers are still needed. Sign up through the Dinah “SOAR” Days & Hot Air Balloon Festival Facebook page.
