Details on New Charge Faced by Former Trooper Indicted by Federal Grand Jury

The former Utah Highway Patrol trooper charged in 8th District Court for the June Maeser Highway Firenow faces a federal charge for allegedly setting a second fire in Uintah County about a week and a half earlier. The Grand Jury Charge filed in U.S. District Court against 37-year-old Rex Richard Olsen states that the defendant “set a fire on the underbrush and grass upon the public domain and lands owned by the United States…Bureau of Land Management located near Highway 40 and mile marker 166 in Uintah County.” This alleged action puts Olsen in violation of Title 18 in the United States Code, Sections 1855. The fire, known as the Mile Marker 166 Fire, started
on May 30th
and closed Highway 40 for a brief time.
