The Utah Department of Environmental Quality Division of Air Quality has announced a program aimed at improving air quality within the Uinta Basin. The Uinta Basin Oil and Gas Engine Exchange is one of the DEQ programs offering incentives to oil and gas producers who voluntarily take action to reduce their emissions in order to help with attainment of the ozone standard by the year 2023. This specific program provides financial assistance for up to 40 percent off the cost to replace non-road, stationary, or gas engines which support oil and gas production. The engines need to have a model year of 2008 or older. Those that qualify are eligible for funding of up to 40 percent off the cost of replacement for a qualifying natural gas engine.  Among other requirements, the engine must be operable and operate a minimum of 500 hours in the Uinta Basin.
