The trial for a federal lawsuit is underway concerning abuse at the Daggett County Jail that came forward in 2017. While most of the court proceedings tied to the lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union against Daggett County and staff were settled, the lawsuit against Daggett County by two former inmates is now being heard in federal court.
KSL.com reports that testimony in the trial has included accounts by former inmates Dustin Law Porter and Steven Drollette of guards tasing inmates as entertainment as well as other misconduct. Drollette testified that a guard had a police dog in training bite him on the leg and then refuse to get him medical attention for the puncture wounds. It was Drollete who wrote letters to report the misconduct after he was transferred to a new jail.
The 10-day trial is scheduled through April 19th.
