Cutthroat Slam Program Continues To Grow In Popularity

The Cutthroat Slam program is a popular pursuit for anglers in the Uintah Basin and the program continues to grow. The Colorado River cutthroat trout featured on the first medallion offered in the Slam has local significance as that species of trout is native to the tributaries of the Green and Colorado Rivers. This is why that species was selected as the subject for the massive mural in Vernal unveiled on East Main Street last August. The mural is also about promoting the Utah Cutthroat Slam. The second medallion announced for the program features the Yellowstone cutthroat trout. The DWR has shared that to date, 4,928 people have registered for the slam, and the program has generated more than $91,800 dollars for cutthroat trout restoration and outreach in Utah. There have been 1,310 completions of the slam, with a record 245 completions taking place in 2023.
