A curious and cute little bat in Duchesne County heard it was back to school time and
arrived in time for kindergarten this week. The Division of Wildlife Resources shared that
it was a little long-legged myotis bat that was “determined to be healthy and was safely
relocated to more suitable habitat by the regional biologists.” When asked why it wasn’t
killed to test for rabies, the DWR explained that if the bat had been exhibiting abnormal
behavior or if it had come into direct contact with a person that is what would have
happened. This bat was found hiding in a dark spot on the outside of the building, up and
away from people. Calling local wildlife authorities to handle the situation properly or to
receive instructions is always the right decision.
