Crews have continued their efforts on the Big Gulch Fire in Moffat County as the danger remains high for wildfires throughout the region. In the latest update, the Moffat County Sheriff’s Office shares that wildfire crews along with Moffat County Road and Bridge, BLM, Craig Fire, and aircraft are actively engaged in fire suppression efforts for the Big Gulch Fire, in the area of Moffat County Roads 90 and 174. The burn area has been mapped at 1,161 acres; burning private and public lands. The cause is undetermined at this time, however, it is believed to have been caused by lightning. Highway 40 remains open but travelers should remain aware of fire crews working in the area for at least the next several days as they continue to check for hot spots.
