A moose is thankfully going to be fine after getting in a scary situation on Friday in
Uintah County. The Utah Conservation Officers Association shared that a young bull
moose was found trapped in an irrigation canal and DWR officers, biologists, and
community members worked together on the rescue.
Kati Morphy and her girls happened to be traveling along 3300 North next to the Steinaker Service Canal on Friday afternoon around 2:30pm when they were stopped due to the rescue operation underway. “My girls and I just happened to be driving home that way and we weren’t able to get through because the crane was in the middle of the road,” shares Kati.
The crane had to be used to lift the tranquilized moose out of the canal and move it over to 3300 West. It was carefully laid on the road where it was wrapped up and carried into the back of a trailer. The Morphys got a front row seat to all the action which Kati said was something her
girls will never forget!
The Utah Conservation Officers Association gave “a big shout out and thank you to the members of the community that donated their time and equipment to help DWR save this moose! The young bull was tranquilized for a ride back up the mountain where it was released safely!”
