Rick Kawchack is an artist from Craig, Colorado whose unique artwork will soon have a lot more admirers. His aluminum sculpture finished in 2013 is a 2,035-pound dinosaur that took two years and 2,000 hours of work. It was his first venture in creating large scale art and features close to 2 million spot welds in the aluminum sheeting that makes up the 7 foot tall Styracosaurus. The piece stayed local but is now heading to a new home, the Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! museum in Grand Prairie, Texas. According to an article in the Craig Press, “Ripley Entertainment Director John Corcoran shared that while other dinosaur-themed art will be on display in the garden, Kawchack’s dinosaur is definitely unique. Corcoran noted his admiration for ‘the way that different people (conceptualize) art’ and added that Kawchack’s piece is a perfect fit for the museum” as “there wouldn’t be a Ripley’s without people like Rick.”
