Cougars Thriving in Utah; DWR Recommending Increase in Hunting Permits

by | Jul 16, 2018 | News | 0 comments

Cougars are doing well in Utah and as a result, the Division of Wildlife Resources is recommending more hunting permits for this fall. Last season, 581 permits were issued in the state and in the upcoming season, 653 permits may be given out. As always, the number of actual cougars to be taken will be lower than that. Last year 456 were taken which is 125 less than permits issued. “Cougars are tough to hunt,” shares mammals coordinator Darren DeBloois. “Not every hunter who gets a permit will take one.” The recommendations will be discussed at the upcoming RAC meeting held
August 2nd at 6:30pm
at the DWR Northeastern Region Office in Vernal.
