Parents are responsible for their children’s health and wellbeing and internet safety is a key component in that quest. Sgt. Rue Larsen from the Utah State Corrections Office visited the Uintah Basin last week and added his expertise to the topic. Larsen recommends keeping an open line of communication between yourself, your kids and your spouse, making sure to set clear rules. It’s also crucial that parents create a safer online environment by utilizing filters and software to protect families. Another basic guideline is to avoid isolation. Keep computers in central locations where others can see the screen. Teaching kids and teens the importance of guarding personal information is important as predators and those looking to take advantage of kids can piece information together that reveal a lot about your child. For more information on this topic, visit
