After years of pursuing the option, Uintah County has approved a contract with the Department of Justice to hold federal prisoners at the Uintah County Jail through the United States Marshals Service. Uintah County Sheriff Steve Labrum presented the Department of Justice contract to the Uintah County Commission on Tuesday, stating that the state agreed to pay $67.73 per day per inmate but that he negotiated a contract of $82 per day from the Department of Justice plus additional pay for transporting inmates to health facilities and court. The contract allows Uintah County Jail to hold up to 70 federal male inmates. Holding federal inmates serves as an additional revenue source for the County. The Uintah County Commission approved the contract as presented and expressed their appreciation for Sheriff Labrum and his staff’s work in getting this done
