The Fiscal Responsibility Act, also referred to as the debt ceiling bill, passed on Wednesday in the House of Representatives. Congressman Blake Moore issued a statement regarding his support in voting ‘Yes’ for the Act. “While there is much more work to be done, this historic legislation could reduce our national deficit by $2.1 trillion over 6 years,” shares Moore. “This bill includes commonsense work requirements to SNAP and TANF to save taxpayer dollars and lift more Americans out of poverty, and it takes back COVID funds and cuts off funding for China through the CDC’s Global Health Fund. President Biden will also no longer be allowed to use COVID as an excuse to stop student loan repayment, and our veterans and national defense programs remain fully funded. In this bill,” continues Moore, “Republicans are successful in reforming NEPA for the first time in 40 years, which will greenlight more American energy and infrastructure projects without crippling restrictions and procedural hurdles.” The Senate approved the Act on Thursday, sending it to the desk of President Biden. Not all Utah lawmakers supported the Act. Senator Mike Lee was among those that spoke out against raising the debt ceiling, emphasizing that it does not address the national debt.
