A three axle commercial truck crashed on Highway 191 north of Vernal
on Monday afternoon
. According to Utah Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at Mile Post 368 just below Windy Point
at about 2:18pm
. “It was coming down the mountain following a truck and trailer in front of it when it lost its brakes,” shares Lt. Brett Gehring. “The driver tried to go around the vehicle in front and was unable to negotiate the next curve causing the commercial truck to tip over onto the trailer of the vehicle it was following…The trailer detached and the commercial truck trapped the trailer and both came to a rest.” The driver of the commercial truck was transported by ambulance to Ashley Regional Medical Center. Hydraulic fuel spilled onto the road closing the Highway until absorbent material could be put down to clean up the slick mess. One lane was then opened up to direct traffic around the accident for several hours as the wrecker uprighted the vehicles and the roadway was cleared. Seat belts were worn by all involved.
