The current status for the Speirs Fire hasn’t changed much. It remains at 715 acres in size and is 97 percent contained. Still, officials have decided to reinstate the temporary fire closure for Greens Draw Road, Lowline Trail and Pipe Creek Trail. The closure will run through August 31st and allows for the completion of the contingency line and provides for public safety during construction. “The contingency line is an integral part of our protection efforts not only from the Speirs Fire, but against future fire starts,” shares Flaming Gorge District Ranger Bryan Wilson. “We recognize the current, temporary impacts of the closure, but the benefits of the fuels break will last for many years.” Anticipated chances of precipitation are expected to continue over the next several days with fire activity remaining minimal.
